More about Speed Spell
Speed Spell trains short-term visual memory and quick, accurate typing at once. A word is shown for a brief moment, sometimes spoken aloud, and then disappears. You have to hold the letters in your head and pick them out one by one from a deck that also contains look-alike decoy keys, so a half-remembered letter can easily lead to a mistake.
You choose a round of 30, 60 or 90 seconds. Every three words you climb a rung on a ladder of word lengths: Easy runs from three to five letters, Medium from four to seven and Hard from five to eight. Each rung brings more decoys and a little less time per letter. Fixed paces of five, three or two seconds per word are also available, and the two tight paces use short words only.
Scoring and progress
Your score is words per minute for the whole round, and a best is kept for each difficulty. Grades from S to D come from that rate, with lower thresholds on Hard because its words are longer, and running out of hearts caps the grade at B or below, down to C. A misspelled or timed-out word costs a heart, and every ten words in a row wins one back, up to five hearts.
