Tightrope

Walk the wire between skyscrapers, high above the city. Hold to step forward and slide your thumb to shift the pole. Wind gusts, birds and slack rope all try to tip you. Stay centred to build a speed multiplier, and cross as many rooftops as you can in 60 seconds.

Difficulty

3 lives. The first rooftop is calm; a fall sends you back to the halfway flag. Teetering? Slide back fast.

Slide the way you're falling back from. Tipping right? Slide left. Stay in the green to raise your multiplier, which also makes you walk faster.
Gust warnings flash on the side the wind will come from. Lean into them early.
Let go to crouch. You stop, steady yourself and duck under birds, but the clock keeps running.

About Tightrope

Tightrope is a balance game seen from behind an acrobat walking a wire between skyscrapers, with the city far below and each rooftop higher and windier than the last.

How to play

  • Hold anywhere to walk along the wire, and slide your thumb left or right to shift the pole. Slide the opposite way to the side you are tipping.
  • A gust warning flashes on the side the wind will come from, so lean into it early. Let go to crouch under birds, but the 60-second clock keeps running.
  • Staying centred builds a x5 multiplier that speeds you up. Easy has a safety net; Medium and Hard have limited lives.

Controls

Hold and slide on touch screens. On desktop, hold Space, W or the up arrow to walk and use the left and right arrows or A and D to balance.

More about Tightrope

Tightrope is a game about staying calm while things push you around. Your acrobat is always slightly unstable, wind leans on the wire, and your job is to make small, early corrections instead of big, late ones. The reward is a steady rhythm: walk, balance and recover, then cross to the next rooftop.

A run is a series of crossings between rooftops, and each rope is longer than the last. Early crossings are about learning the controls. Later ones add wind that grows stronger, gusts, birds and drones to duck, slack sections of rope, and rain. On Medium and Hard these arrive sooner, so the difficulty you choose changes the whole texture of the run.

Scoring and progress

Your score is the number of rooftops you cross in the 60-second run. Separately you collect style points from stars (10 each), ducked birds (15), close calls (25) and each crossing (50), all multiplied by your ×1 to ×5 balance multiplier. Easy, Medium and Hard keep their own bests. The grade from S to D depends on your accuracy, which drops 10 points per fall, plus your crossings and your longest streak of crossings without a fall.

Common questions

How long is a run?
A run is 60 seconds. It can end sooner on Medium or Hard if you run out of lives. Time spent crouching or recovering from a fall still counts down.

What happens when I fall?
On Easy a safety net catches you and you lose time but not the run. Medium gives you 3 lives and Hard gives you 2, and each fall costs one. Falling also resets your multiplier.

Is there a checkpoint?
Easy and Medium have a halfway checkpoint on each crossing. Hard does not.

Tips and strategy

  • Correct early and gently. When the pole starts tipping, a small slide the opposite way works better than a big one, since over-correcting just sends you to the other side.
  • When a gust warning flashes, lean toward the side the wind will come from before it arrives. Waiting until the gust hits leaves you reacting instead of preparing.
  • Release to crouch when you need steadiness. Crouching reduces the sway and ducks you under birds, but the clock keeps running, so do not stay low longer than you need to.
  • Hold steady balance for 1.5 seconds at a time to raise the multiplier up to ×5. It also speeds you up by about 10 percent per step, but a big wobble or a bird hit takes it back down.
  • On Easy you have a safety net, so a fall only costs time. On Medium and Hard each fall costs a life, so slow down when you are low on lives.
  • Do not chase every star. A star adds only 10 points times your multiplier, while a crossing is a full point on your score.
